Product Overview

He had no need to give any order, the slightest pressure of his heels and they were off; and not forgetting for a moment the reason for his errance, the joy pulsing through The Nipper's body was transferred to his own, and they became one again.

Set in the early 1800's in the mining areas of North-East England, this is a story of tough people in hard times, a story of sweated labour in squalid conditions, of Big Mullen - who tried to lead the miners in revole, of Old Mark - who lost his limbs in the Squires man trap, and a host of mining folk.

But it is more than that. t is the story of a sixteen year old boy's love for a runt pony when his personal world collapses and the green fields are exchanged for a life in the bowels of the earth.
