Product Overview
Longtime: that was the place in the Blue Mountains of Australia, in the heart of the Candlebark Country, where the Truelance family built their home.
Edwin, the father, built the house himself, to an original and slightly lopsided design. Letty, the mother, planted a garden; and the five Truelance children had a world of rain-forest and bushland to explore. But they worked, too: they did correspondence lessons at the kitchen table, they lifted the turnip crop, and helped in the sawmill. The story, as told by Teddy, the youngest of the family, is based on the author's own childhood. Vital and sad and funny, it is a story of a happy family and a vanished corner of Australia.
'Longtime Passing' won the Australian children's Book of the Year Award for 1972.
