Little Squire The Jumping Pony - True Horse Stories
It had to be fate with a twist of shamrock luck that brought two unknown Irish immigrants together on American soil in the 1930s. No one could have guessed that their meeting would result in the most dynamic jumping duo the country had ever seen.Little Squire, a tiny son of a Connemara pony, and Mickey Walsh, a young man rebelling against his father, would take New York City by storm with their talent, humour and style.
Through good times, hard times, and wartime the pair won hearts and kept crowds on their feet as they accomplished "the impossible," clearing every hurdle that stood between them and the Open Jumper Championship at the Madison Square Gardens Nationals. By the time he was retired, Little Squire, still sound and in top form, had made certain he would be remembered as one of the greatest show jumpers ever.
