Equitainment's Comments

What first got me was the cover, then of course, I started reading all the reviews at the back of the book so yes had to read it. Its not a real horsey book, dont get me wrong it has horses in it but there is more going on in the book. The first thing it says on the back cover is..."every parent should read Danny's Dragon"...though the story is based for American children, it could happen in our schools here in Australia - I read it from cover to cover. It has a lot of feeling, the coping of a family of a lost loved one, racism in schools, the teacher and his bridge - the method used to understanding. A very good read, author Janet Muirhead Hill (award winning author of Miranda and Starlight Series) must have come close to wining an award with this book. This book is illustrated in black & white by Pat Lehmkuhl, reasonalby good sized print and nicely laid out.

Product Overview

Danny’s family lives on a cattle ranch in Montana. He remembers the good times before his father joined the Air National Guard, which sent him to Iraq where he was killed.

Danny struggles with the many stages of grief. His vivid imagination and Dragon, the horse his father gave him, exacerbate his pain but finally help him to accept the loss.

With the family ranch in jeopardy, Danny learns a lot about himself, his family, the world, and the fellowship of suffering, even among the “enemy” when he has to move to the city and attend a large public school.
