19 Feb 2014 In This NewsletterA FINE STEP - New Family Movie ReleaseI have just watched a preview of a new movie, A FINE STEP, and it's a ripper ... I'm so pleased to see some quality horse movies coming through for a change! It's an American movie starring the wonderful Luke Perry (star of the rodeo movie 8 SECONDS) plus our very own true blue Aussie, Cameron Daddo. I spent a fair bit of time socialising with Cameron back in his Perfect Match years, so it brought back some great memories.I also learnt a lot from this movie too. It's based around the show-ring world of a breed of horses I had never heard of before, the Paso Fino. OK, I admit it. I roared laughing when I first saw the gait, and made lots of irreverant comments on what dressage judges must be thinking, but all jokes aside, the horses were magnificent. They also explain a bit about the origins of the breed and how the horses are judged throughout the movie too, so we aren't left entirely in the dark. It just goes to show, you never finish learning when it comes to horses. There are the usual equine related glitches and bloopers that we've all come to expect in horse movies, but they aren't too offensive. EXCEPT that no one ever wears a crash hat throughout the entire movie. Not good enough movie makers ... you should be setting a better role model for young (and old) viewers. A FINE STEP - DUE EARLY APRIL 2014 HEARTLAND SEASON 6 PART ONE - DVDGreat news that Season 6 is finally heading for it's Australian release date, but I really wish the distributors would be a lot quicker. By the time we get to see the complete seasons released here in Australia, the rest of the world is two seasons ahead of us. And of course by that time, we've been hit with all the spoilers in the world.Never mind though. At least it is on it's way with Season 6 Part 1 due for release on the 2nd April, and the following Part 2 due later on in June. Not too long to wait now.HEARTLAND SEASON 6 PART ONE - DVD - DUE 2ND APRIL 2014 MARTIN CLUNES - HEAVY HORSEPOWER - DVDI never really was a Martin Clunes fan until he started producing his brilliant documentaries. I began with the British Islands one, then discovered the wonderful dog one, fell in love with Horse Power and am now bursting a boiler to see this latest edition. My only criticism is that it's not long enough. More episodes please Mr Clunes.Fifty years ago, it seemed that the great age of the working horse was over but today, in locations all over the world, these wonderful creatures are proving their value all over again.Martin Clunes (Doc Martin) travels the globe to look at the important role of working horses and he begins training his own adored Clydesdales to work on his Dorset farm. I'm so thrilled to see this movie FINALLY make it to DVD. And even better ... the copy has been completely digitally re-mastered, so it's a lovely, clear copy! And there's more good news too. Throughout this year many more of the CHARLES CHAUVEL movies will be gradually released on DVD. YIPPEEEEEEEE!In case you aren't familiar with Chauvel's work, he was a pioneer of the Australian Film Industry who gained international acclaim as both an actor and director, and introduced us all to acting legends such as Chips Rafferty. His movies all had a very distinctive Aussie flavour with JEDDA, his final movie, breaking new ground by both casting two Aboriginal actors in the lead roles, and also by being the first Australian movie shot in colour.I often field enquiries for various James Chauvel films, so I know there are going to be a lot of people very happy to see they are finally being released.
