I'm so excited to have found that this has made a return. I used to LOVE the saturday night Disney movie, sitting mesmorised in front of the TV, especially if it was a horse or dog episode. I hadn't seen this episode for a million years and loved every minute of it.
I had completely forgotten it also featured Davy Jones (from the Monkees) as the rival jockey. Apparently he was an apprentice jockey in real life before rocketing to stardom with the Monkees, and returned to his beloved horses after his singing career declined. I thought he looked much too comfortable with the horses to be just another actor trying to fake his riding expertise! He also starred in a couple of episodes of the 1970's TV series HORSE IN THE HOUSE, but try as I might, I've not been able to track down any copies of that one.
I've heard a rumour that Disney will be releasing more of these Wide World of Disney episodes from their vaults. Let's hope other classics like Justin Morgan Had a Horse, Run Appaloosa Run, The Horse With the Flying Tail and many more make it back into print for a whole new generation to enjoy.
