First the good news. Book 18 in our very favourite series for children, 'Famous' is out now and ready to go. The bad news is that there will only be one more book after this one and then Canterwood Crest will be finished forever.Although are all going to miss it like crazy, don't despair. I have heard a rumour that the author Jessica Burkhart is in the process of writing another series, this time under her real name of Jess Ashley (Jessica Burkhart is just a pen name). The first as yet un-named book in this new fantasy series, will be one of four adventure stories featuring 8 year old Belle and her pet unicorn, and is due out about June 2014.
Jess will also continue riding horse books, with another new series in the development stage being aimed at older readers ... YEAH. No news yet as to when it will be released, but I'll keep you posted as I find out more.
It's weird that although Canterwood Crest is offically aimed at tweens (8 - 12 year olds), all ages really enjoy reading it, including mums. I actually have it listed in the teenager section on my website as there are strong themes of teenage dramas throughout the series which not all younger children are ready for.
Book 17: Jealousy
Book 18: Famous
Type the words CANTERWOOD CREST in the series box on the EQUITAINMENT HOME PAGE and all the available titles will come up for you to browse through.
DARK HORSE by HONEY BROWN is a new release thriller fiction for adults that is receiving rave reviews. In a time where there seems to be a glut of romance-based equestrian fiction, it's wonderful to see one come through that is of a different genre.This is what Honey Brown has to say about writing the book;
"Dark Horse is about a woman and her horse trapped on a mountain with a dangerous stranger. I was thinking about the idea of playing along with a dangerous person in order to lessen a threat. When fleeing or fighting isn't an option, when you have to depend on the very person you fear, how far would you go to keep the peace? Intimacy, distrust, sex and survival, it's about all those things. There's also a twist. It's the first twist I've ever written." Honey Brown

A first edition copy of Black Beauty dated 1877 has recently appeared for sale with one of the major auction houses. If you have a spare $6,000 laying around, this one might be for you.Anna Sewell died just 5 months after the publication of Black Beauty which instigated the banning of "bearing reins" and brought about new animal welfare legislation. Not originally published as a children's book, it is now amongst the top of the best-seller lists of all times, even beating Harry Potter.
Black Beauty is the only book Anna Sewell ever wrote. Son of Black Beauty by Phyllis Briggs was written in the 1950's and then the Pullein-Thompson sisters wrote some "Black Beauty's Family" books. Son of Black Beauty is fairly easy to find in later abridged versions, but the earlier complete binding is harder to find. If you do see it anywhere then grab it straight away as it is quite collectible.
