I now have a new supplier for DVDs in the United States and gladly, they are proving to be extremely efficient. Here are a few notable titles that I can order on your behalf that aren't available here in Australia. Just remember that they are imports and most of them have Region 1 encoding on them, so you do need an all-region player for them to work properly.
I'm so excited to finally be able to get this movie. If you're a child of the 70's you will remember it well from your childhood and, like me, probably dreamt about that wonderful welsh pony for years to come. I think this movie is one of the reasons I still have such a soft spot for Welshies today.Based on the book by James Aldridge, this was the first movie Disney made in Australia. It has an all star cast including John Mellion and even his young son plays a role as Kit Quayle. It was also the big screen debut for Lorraine Desmond, who was much loved for her role of Grace in the WWII TV series, The Sullivans.
Why this movie isn't available in Australia is quite beyond me. I've spoken to the Disney people and they just say they don't believe it would be popular enough to warrant an Australian release. Strewth! All we horse people have been scrambling for it for years. At least we can now get it, even if it is in an American playback format.
I also have a couple of copies of the book available from the collectible section. They are pretty difficult to find and well worth grabbing when they are available.
RIDE A WILD PONY - NTSC (Region 1) DVD
Here is another brilliant movie that has been much too hard to find. I remember this was one of my favourite Saturday midday movies and must have watched it a million times. The real Colonel Alois Podhajsky, the man who ran the Spanish Riding School in Vienna for many years, choreographed all the equestrian performances, but the red coats featured in the gala sequence are not authentic. Apparently Disney thought that the traditional brown uniforms were not spectacular enough for Hollywood and they were replaced by the resplendid red coats.
MIRACLE OF THE WHITE STALLIONS - Region 1 (NTSC) DVD
This is the original 1947 version starring Chips Rafferty of this much loved movie, that was later re-made in the 1980's starring Nicole Kidman, still in her frizzy hair days.
This is the movie based on the book written by the legendary American author Marguerite Henry on one of the founding stallions of the modern Thoroughbred, the Godolphin Arabia. Made in 1990, it was also the last film appearance for both Glenda Jackson and Anthony Quade.Marguerite wrote over 40 books for children, most of them based on horses including such classics as, Misty of the Chincoteague, Justin Morgan Had a Horse, King of the Wind and many more with several of them being made into movies over the years. I try and keep all the books I can and also have a few of the movies too. It's a shame I can't get Justin Morgan Had a Horse, but Disney are very slow at releasing many of their TV movie classics.
Here are links to a few of the most popular titles, but there are more on the website. Just type MARGUERITE HENRY in the author's search box and all titles will come up.

Great news for all the many fans of Australian author Carmel Rowley. Her third and final book in her best selling series for adults, WINDS OF TIME, is on it's way. This drama series is set in the world of Arabian show horses and has an entire legions of fans. I recently spoke to Carmel about her latest book and she believes it's the best one yet.
Jessikah Carey leaves her Darling Downs Arabian stud and heads back to her roots in Egypt. There she discovers a tumultuous and bitter past interwoven with an intriguing mystery, the splendour of Egypt and the lives of her ancestors and their love of the Arabian horse.
I can highly recommend these books if you haven't already discovered them. A terrific fast-moving series packed with action and drama.
