Hello from Jody's Helper
Teresa here, wishing you a very Happy New Year for 2009. Now, where do I start, oh yes - there are a LOT of new release books as well as new books in series for instance - The lovely children's Australian series like Bonnie & Sam by Alison Lester latest being - Saving Mr. Pinto. As well as new Coffee table books (pictured) and a couple of interesting Horse Racing ones.
I tell you it's so hard working for Jody, way too tempting to buy everything you see, talk about in heaven. We have a running joke that I am so addicted that I am the president of the "horsebookaholics club". I have a "few" books to read over the holidays and I will let you know what I think of them when I am finished reading.
Teresa xox PS Don't forget to look at all the NEW Computer Games out for the holidays, one of my favourites is the new Barbie Horse Adventure.
Interesting...
One of the popular books at the moment is Chosen by a Horse by Susan Richards. This is on my list of to read books. Here is a little about the book - "When Susan Richards agrees to take on one of the abused horses just rescued by the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a new chapter opens in her turbulent life."
"Caring for this astonishingly trusting creature, she begins a relationship that will change her view of the world. Beautifully-written, poignant, and often sharply funny, this memoir is an inspiring must-read for anyone who has ever loved a horse, and anyone who has ever lost their way in life. "
There are a few new Young Adult books, some are award winners like Shadow Horse by Alison Hart - "After assaulting the owner of the horse farm where she works, thriteen-year-old Jasmine Schuler must face the inside of a courtroom and then juvenile hall.
Jas knows no one will believe her defense - that the man she attacked had poisoned Whirlwind, the mare she loved. Wealthy horse owner Hugh Robischeaux is powerful enough to shift all blame to Jas's grandfather. But Jas refuses to give up. After the judge pronounces her guilty of assault and puts her into foster care at Second Chance, a farm for abused animals, she remains determined to prove her charge against Hugh.
Great Reads
If your really young or young at heart, have a look in the First Reader's section, Jody does a real lot of researching and searching from all over the place to find new and just adorable books to read and I have to admit I've bought nearly all these books in this section.
The book pictured is one of Judy Anderson's series of True Horse Stories in the Children's section, its nice to see an Aussie horse as the main character in one of the books. Of couse I just had to have it being about an Australian Horse and her first book - Little Squire, the Jumping Pony is a great read too.
A beautiful little series of books - The Unicorn's Secret (only 8.95 each) - both Jody and I when we first saw them just HAD to read the whole series as they sounded such a good read. We were not disapointed, top series. They are by Kathleen Duey and are in First Chapers in Fiction.
Latest Aditions
At the moment there are over 30 items in the Latest Additions on the front page of the website, click the word More to see all of them. It changes just about every day with new items Jody has for sale, be it NEW or USED that have just come in.
Pictured - has just come in as a HB (Hard Back Edition) a First Edition is "Water House and Smith" by John Ellicott. "The Rise to Power of Two Racing Dynasties." - "Two players - one a trainer, one a bookmaker - each part of a great racing dynasty. What would keep them together, amid the fiercest of circumstances, to perpetuate the house of Waterhouse? "
A glorious coffee table book that is in the Latest Additions - "Hunt Country Style" - "The houses featured in this luxurious volume range from c.1730 Oakland Green Farm in Loudoun County - a quintessential Virginia homestead originally constructed of hand-hewn wood that has evolved to incorporate fieldstone"
Both Jody and I ooohed and aaahed over this book. This is what Jody wrote about it in her comments - "If you're interested in the ultimate in equestrian homes and interior design, then you'll love this book. The furnishings in some of these homes are exquisite ... very country, very horsy and very American. It makes a perfect gift for the horse owner who has everything."
My Ramblings
I have started reading this one pictured, I couldnt resist getting - sigh. I really liked the look of the front cover it intrigued me, See I can't help myself.
I have just finished the first book in the series of the Unicorn Chronicles (Childrens Section) "Into the Land of Unicorns" by Bruce Coville and loved it, and apparently book 4 in the series "The Last Hunt" is in production.
When you have time grab a cuppa and sit back go on line and type in www.equitainment.com.au. its a read in itself. Or get a nice cool drink and sit back and go into the USED books section - both Adult and Children, its a read in itself just browsing and relive some of your childhood favourite horse books and good memories. Enjoy.

Hot Off The Press - Family Movie
Jody just wanted to let you know, Moondance Alexander staring Don Johnson, Kay Panabaker & Lori Loughlins has finally arrived.
This is what Jody has written about the movie - "This is a lovely family film ... one of my favourites to come out in quite a while.
After suffering the loss of her father, Moondance Alexander is having a hard time fitting in at school. That is until the coloured pony Checkers comes along and saves the day.
She enters him in a jumping competition, something like a cross between a Working Hunter show class and a Junior Equitation class, where she grudgingly earns the respect of her fellow competitiors.
It's nice to have a happy ending and no tissues required for a change. One for the family to enjoy."
