2010 GRAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

31 Mar 2010
The 2010 Grand National Showhorse Championships have been run and won for another year.

If I've been a bit hard to track down in the office over the last week, it's because I've been out at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre, helping to set-up the arena and all sorts of other bits and pieces for the big event.

Like everyone who volunteers at horse show, I'm totally exhausted but I've had a terrific time, met loads of wonderful new people and can't wait for next years event.

In case you're not familar with the show, it's the ultimate showcase for Australia's elite show horses. Qualifying for this event is very difficult as competitors have to have won their state's 'Horse of the Year' title, or to have received Champion or Reserve at a Royal show or the equivalent. So just qualifying is a huge honour.

The amazing arena landscaping was designed and over-seen by landscape architect Anna King. A spectacular Aussie backyard was created on the arena resplendid with a marquee (complete with lounge and dining table for the judges to relax in) reclining chairs under an enormous market umbrella, a working water feature, truckloads of plants and turf and all set against a magnificent backdrop provided by the major sponsor. I can't wait to see what Anna comes up with next year.

EQUITAINMENT proudly sponsored the 'Small Galloway" class and our congratulations go to the very worthy winner 'Willowcroft Regal Winter', owned and ridden by Kim Durante and also to the beautiful runner-up 'AP Wizardry' owned by T Lamey & L Walsh and ridden by Mark Kenzig.

The two judges for the event travelled from England and were extremely impressed with the quality of the horses, although the heat took them a little by surprise. Being autumn they were expecting much milder weather, however we had one of those unseasonal sorchers for the weekend, with temperatures peaking at about 38 degrees.

All in all it was a brilliant show and EQUITAINMENT will certainly be back sponsoring again next year. For more photos and a full report follow the link to the Horse Deals website or you can download the complete results.
