At the ripe old age of 89, the world's favourite racing mystery author Dick Francis, has passed away.

A veteran of over 350 races, he is probably best remembered for the 1956 Grand National, when the the horse he was riding belonging to the Queen Mother, Devon Loch, fell 50 yards before the finishing line.

He then began his career as a mystery writer, with the Queen Mother remaining one of his biggest fans. Readers all over the world will mourn the loss of both a great author and a true gentleman.
